Do I need to get an MOT check for my car?

If you have a car that has been on the road for more than three years since new, the UK law states that you have to have a valid MOT document for the vehicle.

An MOT test, which stands for Ministry of Transport test, is required to be carried out on your vehicle once yearly by a qualified MOT tester to make sure that your vehicle satisfies the required safety standards enforced by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency ).

If for some reason your MOT document has expired then it is prohibited to drive that car on the road. Also beware that you can not renew road tax without a valid MOT certificate.

You do not have to leave your MOT test to the expiry date shown on your present MOT certificate, you can have your vehicle tested any time within 28 days before that date.

What is entailed in an MOT test?

An MOT test involves performing a certain series of checks on your car and shall be performed by a DVSA licensed tester. These tests are undertaken all around both the outside and interior of the car. Inspections will also be performed on the underneath of the car and in the engine bay to make sure everything is in a roadworthy state. A common misconception is that an MOT is the same as having your vehicle serviced, however, this is not the case. An MOT is just a series of checks to ensure that your vehicle is in a safe condition. Servicing your vehicle maintains it’s general mechanical condition.

Throughout the MOT check the outcome of each check that was performed is recorded and if the vehicle successfully passes those checks then you are given a pass certificate (VT20). If the tester is happy that your vehicle is in a safe state then it will pass the MOT test.

A thing for you to be aware of is the expiry date of your new MOT certificate is not twelve months from the date your car passed the test, it’s twelve months from the expiration of your outdated MOT certificate.

You may discover a list of parts or areas on vehicle that are mentioned on the “Advisory Information” section of your new MOT certificate, these parts might need attention in the near future. These advisory items should be looked at by your mechanic and ideally replaced if necessary before the next MOT is due.

If your car fails the MOT test then its condition has been considered unsafe for road use by the tester. You’ll be issued a VT30 failure document and supplied with a rundown of the items that caused the vehicle to fail the MOT test. We will then review with you the required repairs needed to make your vehicle safe and also you can book the car in for the repair work to be carried out and re-tested.

Need To Find The Right Mot Tester? Read The Following Tips

The most tangible asset of any MOT tester is really the customer base. Businesses that see their customers as their most valuable asset bend over backwards to keep them happy. Not only is really the customer always right, but the client’s rights should come before all else. We have some important points to think about when you are looking for a business to provide the services you need.

Companies with strong customer relationships typically survive downturns in the economy. Building customer loyalty takes a deep understanding of what customers need, want, and expect. Make sure that you factor in the time, effort, and cost it will take to develop good customer relations.

When evaluating a particular MOT tester, you need to look beyond facts and figures to its values and culture. The services offered and dress code can give you valuable insight into how the MOT testing station functions. You need to understand both sides of the relationship in order to really get the best service. Make an effort to gain insight into how effectively the MOT garage functions on a daily basis.

Businesses invested in maintaining a great reputation work hard to make good first, second, and third impressions on their customers. A wonderful means to impress customers from the outset is to give high-quality services at affordable prices. To advertise a business you’ve enjoyed working with, tell your family, friends, and colleagues to use them as well. Conversely, sharing negative opinions about a MOT tester that doesn’t meet your quality expectations can help others avoid an unsatisfactory customer experience.

Glowing recommendations from current and former clients provide the best testament to a MOT tester’s commitment to solving customers’ problems. Any MOT tesing station worthy of your business should be willing and in a position to present you with contact information for at least three references. Ask each reference to share their experiences and satisfaction level with the MOT garage.

An unswerving commitment to providing outstanding customer service is certainly the key to long-term success for any MOT tester. This could possibly be a difficult process but is followed more easily if it is a top priority. Relationships with the customers are certainly the most important factor of the business.

I chose Meadowfield due to the offer of bonus Tesco points, however now that I have had experience of service from this family run business, I would most certainly not hesitate to use them in the future. I was attended to by a polite, courteous mechanic and was offered either to wait for the tyres to be replaced or to come back within a short time. I chose the first and sat in their bright, little cabin while the job was carried out. Every now and again someone popped in, always with a friendly smile. After about 40 mins, another friendly face came in to tell me the job was finished and I was ready to go – not only new tyres fitted but also ‘perfectly balanced! Excellent customer service. Thank you Meadowfield, one very satisfied customer here.
