Does my vehicle require an MOT test?

If you own a car that has been on the road for more than three years since new, the UK law states that you require to have a current MOT certificate for the vehicle.

An MOT test, which is short for Ministry of Transport test, is required to be carried out on your vehicle once per year by a qualified MOT tester to make sure that your vehicle meets the minimum safety standards set out by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency).

If you don’t have a current MOT certificate for your vehicle then you can not lawfully drive it on the roads, you also won’t be able to renew your road tax.

You can have your vehicle tested up to 28 days in advance of the expiry date shown on your current MOT certificate.

What does an MOT check involve?

An MOT test involves a DVSA accredited tester inspecting and carrying out a thorough series of checks on your vehicle. The checks are carried out on the interior and exterior, including in the engine bay and also the underside of the vehicle to ensure that it’s in a safe and roadworthy condition. Please note that an MOT is not the same as having your vehicle serviced – an MOT is purely to make sure the vehicle is in roadworthy condition while servicing maintains the general mechanical condition.

During the MOT test the result of each check that was carried out is recorded and if the vehicle passes those checks then you are issued with a pass certificate (VT20). If your vehicle has passed the MOT, the tester is satisfied that your vehicle is safe to drive on the roads.

Please do note that the expiry date on your new MOT certificate is twelve months from the expiry date on your old certificate, not 12 months from the day of your vehicle passing the test.

You may be issued with some advisory items separately advising of parts on your vehicle that are showing wear and tear and may require attention in the near future. These advisory items should be looked at by your mechanic and ideally replaced if necessary before the next MOT is due.

If your vehicle fails the MOT test then its condition has been deemed unsafe for road use by the tester. You will be issued a VT30 failure document and supplied with a list of the items that caused the vehicle to fail the test. You may wish at that point to discuss these items with our mechanics and have the necessary repairs made to make your vehicle safe.

Based in Midlothian, Meadowfield Garage provide MOT testing services to customers in Dalkeith, Newtongrange, Newbattle, Easthouses, Mayfield, Eskbank, Lasswade and Bonnyrigg.

How To Look For The Right Mot Tester

When shopping around for a service provider, bear in mind that you, the customer, are certainly the most vital part of the customer-company relationship. The customer is always right in business, so do not hesitate to ask for what you need. Remember, as the customer you hold the power in your hands, or in your checkbook.

Businesses with a strong customer base are very fortunate and most likely have great customer service. The business needs to constantly satisfy the customers with great service. If a business ever becomes stagnate or stuck in its business strategy, it risks losing customers.

If you are taking your buying power as a customer seriously, research each MOT tester’s operations before hiring its staff or buying its goods and services. Visit the office to see how effectively its staff are dressed, or ask how much its employees are paid, if you really want to support companies that pay living wages. In almost any business transaction, both the customer and the seller should benefit from the relationship. That’s one reason why you should patronize only businesses that share your values.

There is a lot more to effectively managing customer relationships than you might think. It takes careful attention to details, including changing economic conditions and customer expectations. Companies that are satisfied with the status quo and oblivious to changes in the external environment don’t prosper in the long run.

Anytime you have an event you need planned and afterwards managed, look for a MOT tester that has a great local reputation. Ask former customers how they felt about the work they received. You can also have the opportunity to learn something about the MOT tesing station from the Chamber of Commerce in your area.

You need to aim to work for a MOT tester that can allow you flexible working hours. They ought to be committed to undertaking the needed steps to handle your problem quickly. The hallmark of an outstanding service provider is possibly the willingness to do whatever it requires to effectively ensure customer satisfaction.

Companies with a strong customer base will perform even during difficult times. If you center your business plan around customer service, you’ll see your business thrive no matter the economic situation. Building these relationships can be very difficult and time consuming.

The most vital consideration in hiring any MOT tester is your comfort level. Begin by thinking about companies you’ve been happy with in the past and others you believe can be an excellent fit for what you need. Make a quick list of companies you may need to work with, and afterwards start researching to narrow down the list.

When providing customer service to your client base, treat each person like he or she is the only customer that matters. This might be a difficult process but is followed more easily if it’s a top priority. Relationships are extremely important and must be kept positive to continue to grow the business.

I chose Meadowfield due to the offer of bonus Tesco points, however now that I have had experience of service from this family run business, I would most certainly not hesitate to use them in the future. I was attended to by a polite, courteous mechanic and was offered either to wait for the tyres to be replaced or to come back within a short time. I chose the first and sat in their bright, little cabin while the job was carried out. Every now and again someone popped in, always with a friendly smile. After about 40 mins, another friendly face came in to tell me the job was finished and I was ready to go – not only new tyres fitted but also ‘perfectly balanced! Excellent customer service. Thank you Meadowfield, one very satisfied customer here.
